Jeanne Frances Carpenter, 91 of Clarks Summit died Friday at the Jewish Home in Scranton.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware she was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen Wells Shurter, and was educated in Delaware Schools.
Prior to her retirement she was employed in the Personnel Department at JC Penney Company, and was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church. For twenty years Jeanne opened her home to foreign students attending Marywood College, including those from China, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and British Guinea as well as out of town American students. They greatly enriched her life.
Surviving are three sons, Willard and his wife Dorothy, Borrego Springs, California; David and his wife Lee, W. Pittston; and Brian Sr., S. Abington Twp; a daughter, Lois Snyder and her husband Charles, Fleetville; she also leaves behind grandchildren, Ryan, Jonathan, Emily and Brian Carpenter, Kristy Snyder, and Laura Sockey; and great grandchildren, Willem and Emeline Carpenter, Sean Ludwig, and Erin Sockey.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Shurter, and a sister, Elizabeth Kernen.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
