Jeanne Elizabeth Butler, R.N., 81, of Clarks Green, Saturday at home. She is survived by her husband, Phillips Butler, a retired Scranton Times photographer. They were married 57 years ago in St. John's Church, Pittston.
Born in Pittston on June 28, 1928, daughter of the late Dr. James Dixon and Helen Shannon, Jeanne spent much of her adult life in the Clarks Summit area. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory's Church in Clarks Green. The Butlers were seasonal residents of Chamberlin Pond, Wyoming County.
A graduate of Pittston High School, she earned her nursing degree from Kings County Hospital Nursing School, Brooklyn, N.Y. Jeanne spent 26 years as a nurse at the Green Ridge Nursing Home in Scranton and was honored upon her retirement.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing and keeping up with her children and grandchildren, continuing to have a great presence in all their lives. Jeanne was a supporter of wildlife projects and various charities.
Also surviving are a sister, Ann Young, Harrisburg; two sons, Joseph, Tunkhannock; and Tim, Factoryville; three daughters, Jeanne Holman, Allentown; Cathleen Donovan, Cazenovla, N.Y.; and Sharon Burke, Newton; 10 grandchildren, Joe and Kelly Butler, Justin and Jeremy Holman, Clare, Katie, Maura and Matt Donovan, and Erin and Jake Burke; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, attorney Patricia Butler; two brothers, George and James Dixon; and four sisters, Alethia Dixon, Mary Helen Keiffer, Rose Kearney and Margaret Coughlin.
The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Gregory's Church, Clarks Green. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. The family would like to express appreciation to Sacred Heart Hospice of Wilkes-Barre.
