Jean Richards was a kind, loving, and compassionate woman.  She left this world suddenly and peacefully on July 7, 2021 at age 76 – a day before her 54 th wedding anniversary with her late husband, James, who died in 2014.

Jean was born to the late Alex and Frances Malesky on June 11, 1945 in Taylor, PA.  Since the age of 7, Jean was raised by Edith Jakubos and the late Joseph Jakubos. In the words of Edith, Jean was the "perfect daughter all her life and brought nothing but good to all who knew her."

After graduating from Abington Heights High School, Jean worked in various office roles until she married and started a family.  Family meant everything to Jean.  Her full-time role became that of a mom; a role she thoroughly embraced and enjoyed.  Jean made sure to always be there for her three daughters.  Once her daughters were raised, she worked in the office for A&A Printery and then Lourdesmont School for Girls until her retirement.  Jean was an active member of the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and acted as Treasurer for many decades.  She was also an active member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish.

Jean enjoyed spending time at Wednesday morning Bible study, Thursday lunches with the ladies, Pinochle Club, Friday morning company at the church, and helping out at Jakubos Brothers Produce Market in the summer. Jean's favorite day of the week was Sunday – a day for family gathering.  It was on Sundays when Jean's family gathered weekly at her house to catch up and have dinner.  It was also a time to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.

Jean's daughters remember her as a mom who was always available and willing to do just about anything for her family.  Her kind and loving nature will be missed by so many!

Surviving are her daughters Dawn Hicks and husband Matthew, Lori Harris and husband Robert, Debra Richards and husband Jonathan Cordell; grandchildren Christine Lavelle, Kimberly Lavelle and her fiancé Patrick Sawyer, David Lavelle, James Harris, Garrett Harris, Hope Richards-Cordell, and Sophia Richards-Cordell; great grandsons Tyler Eremo and Landon Eremo; brothers Theodore, Gerald, and Joseph Jakubos, Jr.; nephew and nieces Oliver Samuel Jakubos, Kendall Samuel Jakubos, and Haley Samuel Jakubos along with many other nieces and nephews from her late husband's side of the family.

Jean was preceded in death by a great grandson, Noah Alexander DeCicco, and a son-in-law, David Lavelle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Benedict, 1800 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit, PA by Rev. Stephen Asomah, assistant pastor. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
