Jean B. Byer, Clarks Summit, died Wednesday morning at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. She was the widow of Edward D. Byer Sr. who passed in 2009.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mae Kleckler Jarvis. She was a long-time member of the Church of Epiphany in Glenburn, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Jean was a member of the Juanita Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for over 40 years. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader; enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and made many beautiful quilts. She also was an avid bowler and a graduate of the Clarks Summit-Abington High School.
Surviving are two sons, Edward Byer Jr., Clarks Summit; and Harry Byer, Dupont, Pa.; a daughter, Susan Foley and her husband Michael, Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; two grandchildren, Allison Ziecker and Kristina Jackson and her husband Edward; two sisters, Barbara Minick and Karen Zupon and her husband Joseph; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Brady Jackson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Myra Greene.
The family would like to thank Janis Smith for her love and compassion that she showed to Jean over the last six years. They also would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate and loving care as well.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1pm with services by the Rev. Daniel G. Jones in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit, Pa. Interment will be private in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst.
