Janice P. Reese, 97, of Justus, died Thursday evening at Lackawanna County Care Center. She was the widow of Carlyle Reese, who died in January 2001. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton in 1912, daughter of the late William and Maude Moses Twigg, she was a graduate of Central High School and West Chester State Teachers College, Smith College and the Clarke School for the Deaf Teacher Education Program. Before retiring, she taught in the Dunmore and Scranton school districts and later at the Scranton State School for the Deaf. She was an active member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Justus, were she taught Sunday school for underprivileged children.

Surviving are a son-in-law, Frank Lovend, Justus; and a grandson, James "Jay" Lovend and wife, Brenda, Montdale.
She also was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Janice Lovend, in August 2005.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Donald Hasselman, pastor of Mount Bethel Baptist Church. Interment, Washburn Street Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Sunday, 1 p.m. until time of service.
