Janet E. Arnold, 87, of Clarks Summit, died Tuesday morning at VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Gordon Arnold, who died in 1987. They married at Elm Park Methodist Church.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Rose (Salque) Edwards. Rose was from France.

Janet graduated from Scranton Central High School, where she was vice president of her class and president of the French Club. A beautiful woman inside and out, it was said Janet was the Belle of her class. She attended Keystone Junior College and Lackawanna Business School. Before retirement, Janet worked for twenty-five years at the International Salt Company, where she supported the engineering department. She loved her job.

Janet was a member of the Junior League of Scranton, the Waverly Club and the Waverly Community House. She was loved by all who knew her, and a friend to many. She was happiest when with her family, her dear friends, playing bridge and travelling to new places. She was masterful at Jeopardy and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are a son, Jim Arnold and wife, Donna, Glenburn; two daughters, Diane Arnold and husband, Dean Goodermote, Stowe, Vt.; and Faith Schwartz and husband, Erich, Washington, D.C.; a dear sister, Yvonne Evans, Edmonds, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Rachel and Luke Goodermote, Jake, Grace and Sam Arnold, Erich, Katherine and Jack Schwartz; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Gordon Arnold; and two brothers, Henry and Norman Edwards.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 South State St., Clarks Summit.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family, at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Waverly.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 27 from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home.
