Jane Mildred LaCoe Lucas, Dalton, died Thursday at Abington Manor. She was the widow of the late John Lucas Jr. who passed away December 2, 2008, just six days prior to their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Born in Ransom Twp., she was the daughter of the late Ira A. and Sadie Klipple LaCoe. She lived most of her life in Dalton and was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Prior to retirement she was Cafeteria Head for the Abington Heights School District for more than 20 years. She was previously employed as the Executive Cook for S.H. Huber in Dalton.
She was proudly devoted to her family, particularly of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to bake and decorate cakes, being most well known for her pastries, especially her delicious sticky buns. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting.
The family would like to thank the staff of Abington Manor Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided Jane during her stay with them.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky L. Rant and husband Howard, Warrenton, VA, and Nan E. VanFleet and husband Randall, Douglassville; a brother, Kenneth LaCoe of Warsaw, NC; three grandchildren, Amy Rant Miller and husband Michael, Leesburg, VA, Michael Van Fleet and wife Sherri, Tucson, AZ, and Sara Lynn VanFleet, Cavecreek, AZ; five great grandchildren, Isabella Grace, Olivia Jane, and Sydney Lauren Miller, Leesburg, VA, and Avery Olivia and Nathan Smith VanFleet, Tucson, AZ.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Christopher, Chester, John, Elwood, Ray, Gustave and Ira LaCoe; and two sisters, Theresa Abplanalp and Alma Richards.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10 AM at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 South State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Brian Lucas, pastor, Dalton United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
