James "Wilfred" Richards, 84, of Dalton, died Monday at Community Hospice Care in Dunmore. He was the husband of the former Lila Ross. The couple had been married for 63 wonderful years.
Born in Ransom, son of the late Russell and Mildred Petty Richards, Wilfred owned several school buses that served several school districts, but his main passion in his life was his farm. Following in his dad's footsteps, he was able to build his farm into what it is today. Wilfred was a member of several farming organizations, including as president of the Scranton Farmers Market, which he helped institutionalize; Vegetable Growers and the Farmer Extension. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Alison Richards Turner and husband, Paul, Michigan; and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Kimberly and Jennifer.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Harold and Ralph.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Countryside Community Church, Newton-Ransom Boulevard, Clarks Summit, to be officiated by the Rev. Barbara Snyder.
