James R. Sullivan Sr., 72, of North Abington Twp., died after being stricken ill Tuesday evening at Community Medical Center. His wife of 51 years is the former Sally Miller Brown.

Born in Scranton, son of the late William Carlyle and Madalene Smith Sullivan, he was a 1956 graduate of Clarks Summit Abington High School and attended Keystone College before joining the Navy. Before retirement in 1995, Jim was a first-class lineman with Pennsylvania Power and Light. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abington.

He will be most remembered for putting everyone else's needs before his own and telling it like it was. He spent endless hours with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was loved very much by his family and friends and will leave a special place in their hearts.

Also surviving are three sons, James and wife, Susan, Lake Ariel; Richard, Waverly; and Edward, Dalton; five daughters, Diane, Binghamton, N.Y.; Joanne, Scranton; Linda Behrens and husband, Chad, Throop; Lisa Vaughn and husband, Matthew, Scranton; and Amy Cannella and husband, Charles, Falls; 11 grandchildren, Deborah, Nicholas, Sarah, Matthew, Benjamin, Brenden, Ethan, Shaun, Maria, Seth and Caleb; nieces and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Carlyle Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Colleen Sullivan.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Abington, Abington and Carbondale roads, Waverly. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.

Friends may call Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
