James R. Schilpp of South Abington Twp. died Tuesday at home.
Born Jan. 20, 1937, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of James A. and Grace Rothweiler Schilpp. He was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College and served as an intelligence officer with the Army Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Prior to retirement, he was director of bulk salt operations for Akzo Nobel in Clarks Summit.
Jim was a staunch Pittsburgh Steelers fan and an avid reader. He had a special interest in military history and in collecting toy soldiers. In his earlier years, he was active in the local equestrian community.
Also surviving are five children, Merilee Controne, Miramar, Fla.; Andrew Schilpp, Wall, N.J.; Evan Schilpp, Clarks Summit; Taylor Schilpp, Clarks Summit; and Sydney Schilpp, Dalton.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Friends may call Monday from 4 until the time of the service.
