James A. Davis Jr. 78, of Newton Township, died Tuesday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the husband of Judith Swarts. The couple has been married for 30 years.
Born in Newton Township, PA he was the son of the late James and Ethyl Evans Davis Sr. He was a graduate of Newton High School and East Stroudsburg University. He also served his country proudly in the US Army. Prior to his retirement, he was a high school math teacher for the Scranton School District. He was a member of the Countryside Community Church, Ransom Lions Club, and a charter member of the Newton Ransom Fire Co. Jim enjoyed his family and friends and being outdoors, especially mowing his lawn.
Also surviving is a son Todd Davis, Newton; a daughter Jill Lulloff and her husband Rob, Scranton; three stepsons Christopher Swarts and his wife Elizabeth, S. Abington; Ed "Rusty" Swarts and his companion Shelley Doyle, Factoryville; and Jonathan Swarts and his wife Michelle, Covington Township; two brothers Bruce Davis and his wife Peg, Newton; and Gary Davis and his wife Jolene, Tampa, FL; two sisters Jeanette Heller, Newton; and Hazel Keys; three grandchildren Dominic and Bruce Lulloff, and Justin Swarts; and several nieces and nephews. Also several grand nieces and nephews.
H e was preceded in death by a sister Marilyn Kline.
A funeral service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to the Newton Ransom Fire Company.
