Listen to Obituary
Jack E. Rickaby, 65, of RR Dalton, died Thursday afternoon surrounded by his family. His wife is the former Eileen Dickinson; they celebrated 45 years of marriage on Aug. 31.

Born in Pittston, son of the late John and Lenora Rickaby, he worked for Procter & Gamble for 27 years. He served his country in the Air Force and had a special place in his heart for homeless veterans. He was the past post commander of the American Legion Post 665, Dickson City. He served on the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania POW-MIA Committee and participated in the annual Remembrance Day ceremony in Harrisburg. Jack was a former bass tournament fisherman and enjoyed many years with his fishing friends. He liked to go on long rides and have ice cream picnics year 'round at the state park. His interests included National Hot Rod Association racing, ship-watching on the St. Lawrence River and the Weather Channel. One of Jack's favorite places on Earth was the Thousand Islands, N.Y., area. He cherished summers with his wife and family at his camper at the River.

A man of few words, Jack expressed himself briefly and to the point, often with his dry sense of humor. He was his family's walking encyclopedia of information and they will miss him. Among his many blessings were his grandchildren; they were the light of his life.

His family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Gordon and the nurses from the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the gift of care and compassion shown to Jack and his family. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Also surviving are two sons, Brian and wife, Karen, Falls; and Shaun and wife, Sheileen, Dalton; a brother, Bob Rickaby; a sister, Eileen Evans; grandchildren, Jareth, Norah, Emily and Megan; a special mother-in-law, Nora Dickinson; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Emma.
