Isaac Jay Sponaugle, 92, Clarks Summit, died Wednesday, July 16th. He was the husband of Mary (Fray) Sponaugle. Son of John Alonzo and Mary Dessie (VanDevender) Sponaugle.
Ike was born Feb. 8, 1922 in Circleville, West Virginia; he was one of thirteen children.
He served in the Army in the Pacific during World War II and when discharged, worked in Washington DC where he met his wife. They were married in Clarks Summit on Aug. 27th, 1949. Ike worked at Dempsey's OK Tire Shop until he retired. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, where he served as both deacon and elder. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, vacationing, and working in his garden, which supplied the family, and neighbors with produce. Ike always had a bright smile and a friendly hello.
The family would like to thank the staff at Abington Manor and Asercare Hospice for their kindness and care.
Also surviving are three daughters, Diane, and husband Bob Carroll, Longmont, Colorado, Elizabeth, and husband Roger Bennett, Newton, Holly, and husband John Doenges, Dalton; three grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Thompson, Laurie Bennett, and Ike Bennett, and two step grandchildren, Gerard Carroll and Keith Carroll; great grandchildren, Clyde Thompson, Margot Thompson, and Lyla Bennett; and Grace Villaman, his foreign exchange daughter.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Raymond Bennett and Sarah McInroy. A memorial service will be held Friday August 15th at 11am with calling hours from 10:30am until the time of the service at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit with service by Rev. William Carter, pastor.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
