Irene Parry, 84, of Clarks Summit, died Monday morning at Geisinger CMC surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Arthur Parry who died in 2015.
Born in Dickson City. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene Keegan Thorpe. She graduated from Dickson City High School, Married and moved to Clarks Summit. Along with Art, Irene worked at the Summit Diner for many years before opening her own business, the Legal Beagle Snack Shop inside the courthouse. After 20 years she closed, and bought Nickies Fabulous Hoagies in West Scranton. She ran the store until her retirement in 2015.
Irene loved to sew, make jewelry, cook, but most of all spend time with her grandchildren. She knew every news scoop inside the courthouse before anyone else, and will be remembered and missed by many.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lackawanna Health and Rehab and Dr. Thomas Minora for their years of great care.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas and wife, Ann, S. Abington Twp.; and Brent S. Parry, S. Abington Twp.; a son-in-law, William Jenkins, Lake Sheridan; a sister in law, Nancy Parry Munley, S. Abington Twp.; grandchildren, William Jenkins, Houston, Texas; Eric and wife, Stefanie, Waverly; Colby, Brandon, Bradley and Brittany, all of S. Abington Twp.; Gerald, Scranton; Alfred Kenvyn, Lake Sheridan; Jamie and Shea, S. Abington Twp.; Nicholas Meloro, Scranton; and Christopher Meloro, Wallington, N.J.; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Charlotte ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Charl R. Parry-Jenkins and an infant, Bonnie Lee; two brothers William and James Thorpe, and one sister Ann Otto.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7pm from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit.
Funeral Services and Interment at Abington Hills Cemetery will take place privately.
