Irene M. Butkus, 94, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the wife of the late Joseph Butkus, who died in 1981.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late August and Betty Yates Deininger. She was a graduate of Scranton High School, and was employed as a seamstress for Manhattan Shirt Co. for 25 years.
She was of Catholic faith and attended Our Lady of the Snows Church.
Irene resided at Bedford apartment for over 30 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the former Scranton VFW Post 1601.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton, as well as Dr. Tracey Gilardi and Dr. Daniel Kazmierski for their wonderful care and compassion that they gave to Irene.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula Thompson and husband, Richard, Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Deininger and August Deininger Jr.; and three sisters, Evelyn Ortlieb, Leona Weinstein and Delores Oboyle.
A funeral service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
