Ida M. Swartz

Ida M. Swartz, 88, of Newton Township died suddenly at home on Sunday morning.  She was preceded in death in 2009 by her husband of 55 years, Elmer Swartz.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence Stephenson and was a 1951 graduate of Newton-Ransom High School.  Before leaving to raise her children, she was employed by Pope and Talbot.  She was also a former member of the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Ida was known throughout the community as a caring and kind woman who shared her talent for baking with everyone she knew.  She baked pies, cookies, and various other goodies to give to anyone who was celebrating a birthday or anniversary, having a bake sale, or for anyone who just needed a smile and some of Ida's love.  She dearly loved her family and friends and was active right up until the end, never missing the opportunity to cheer on her great nephews and great niece at their sporting events. She adored and was adored by those in the Swartz, Lott, and Kircher families and everyone will miss her generosity and kindness.

Surviving are two sons, Bradly Swartz of Olyphant and Kevin Swartz of Newton Township; one daughter, Christine Swartz of Newton Township; three grandchildren: Rebecca Swartz of Lake Sheridan, Timothy Swartz of Newton Township, and Stephanie Swartz of West Pittston; brother Thomas Stephenson and his wife Jean of Clarks Summit; brother-in-law John Kwiatkowski of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Ida was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence Stephenson and Gertrude Kwiatkowski.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 7 ^th at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Clarks Summit.
