Helen Purdy Ross, 92, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday after a short illness. She was the widow of James D. Ross.

Born in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late Grant and Mabel Purdy. Before retirement, she worked for Helen K. Salsberg's and the Globe Store. Helen was a very kind lady who was willing to help anyone. She was an executive board member and in the Priscilla Circle at First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. She was a 45-year Republican committeewoman for Lackawanna County and was a den, Scout and homeroom mother with her children.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Ware, and husband, Harry, Glenburn; two sons, Jim, Florida, and David, Clarks Summit; a sister, Jean Brooks, and husband, Bob, Maryland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Powdercake"; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 301 School St., Clarks Summit, by the Rev. Virginia Miner. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
