Helen J. Palmer, 67, of Factoryville died Tuesday at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Jan. 8, 1942, in Mount Joy, daughter of the late Henry S. and Dorothy Palmer, she grew up in Scranton and graduated from Central High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware and a master's degree from the University of Scranton. She was an English teacher for the Abington Heights School District, retiring in 1997 as the English department coordinator.

During her career she was respected and admired by friends and colleagues for her precision, attention to detail and ready-wit qualities that contributed to her success as a leader.

Helen loved her dog, Penny, as family. For relaxation, she enjoyed the challenge of logic problems, crossword puzzles and mystery novels. She applied characteristic precision to hobbies of photography, needlework and cooking. She will be greatly missed by neighbors and friends of all ages.

Surviving is a brother, James Palmer, California.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Groff.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. William G. Carter, pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit.
