Helen M. Kolenda, 93, of Scranton, walked into the loving arms of her husband after sixty three years of separation. She was the wife of the late Chester Kolenda who died in 1952.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine Helcosky. Before retirement Helen was employed by local garment factories. She was of the Catholic faith.
Helen loved to travel especially to Atlantic City.She enjoyed eating out and shopping. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the angels on the fourth floor of the Jewish Home for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Helen. Also, thank you to Dr. Darlene Dunay for her wisdom and comfort; she was always there for mom.
Surviving are a daughter Lorraine Mensky, Clarks Summit; grandchildren Tracy Littlejohn and husband George, Peckville; Jennifer Bullaro and companion Bobby, Scranton; Larissa Mensky Mrykalo and husband Frank, Harrisburg; Peter Mensky, Little Rock AK; Koral and Erika; great grandchildren Josh Littlejohn, Matthew and Jonah Mrykalo, Luciana, and Contessa.
She was preceded in death by a son Chester Kolenda, a daughter Judy Bullaro, a brother Thomas Helcosky, a sister Catherine Borowicz, and her beloved dog Snoopy.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania from 6-8 pm. A mass will held at Our Lady of Snows Church in Clarks Summit at 9:30am on Wed. Jan. 6.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
