Harry George Pasternak passed on to the Lord on Sept. 21, 2021. He resided at the Gino J. Merli VA Center in Scranton, where he lived for several years due to an illness.
He was born Dec. 4, 1946, in Taylor, the son of the late George and Laura Pasternak of Clarks Summit. He graduated from Newton Ransom High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served for eight years including two years in Vietnam. He worked for the Pasternak Brothers for a few years, and for construction companies and ran a catering business. He was well known for his wonderful cuisine enjoyed by customers and also members of his family, church and friends.
Harry was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ransom and later in the Countryside Community Church in Newton. His notable service to his beloved church included fish dinners, Easter sunrise service breakfasts, etc. He also served as usher.
He had a compassionate heart for the elderly and children. He cared for his parents and assisted his mother in caring for his maternal grandmother, the late Nellie Winters. He helped in caring for his younger siblings.
He is survived by brothers, John and his wife, Mary Anne, Lawrence and his wife, Jeanne, and Michael and his wife, Donna; and sisters, Susan Samsock and husband, John, and Darlene Scarince and husband, Tom; as well as a number of nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Wilma Winters.
Harry was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome Pasternak, and a sister, Paula Pasternak.
His arrangements are through the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. His funeral service will be private and take place at the Countryside Community Church at a later date with interment at the Milwaukee Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the people who cared for him at Gino Merli. Donations in his memory may be made to Countryside Community Church or Gino Merli VA Center.
