Harold Hufford, 74, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. His wife is the former Judy Goebel. The couple had been married for 40 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Harold Sr. and Romayne King Hufford. He was a 1959 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. After graduation, he joined the Army Reserves and worked for his dad at Mitchell Welding. He then started his own plumbing and heating business, and did very well.
He loved his family, the vacations they all took and his job. He loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, Nev., Hawaii, Alaska and many Caribbean Islands. He was very proud when his son, Aaron, took over the family business so he could spend winters in Florida for the past 15 years, making great friends and fond memories.
He was a wonderful husband, great dad and loved being called "Poppy" while enjoying his grandchildren. He also enjoyed being a Little League coach while his sons were growing up.
The greatest gift anyone could give him was a double lung transplant in 2011, after being in Pittsburgh for five months waiting for the call, which meant he had five more wonderful years to spend with his family. Our hearts are broken, but Harold was at the end of his journey and is now at peace. We will all miss him dearly.
Also surviving are two sons, Tony and wife, Adrienne; Aaron and wife, Lucy, both of Clarks Summit; a daughter, Kimberly Koerner and her companion, John Snyder, Florida; three sisters, Nancy Ikeler, Dunmore; Katie McDermott and husband, Bob, Scranton; Mary Leone and husband, Al, Florida; seven grandchildren, Lilly, A.J., Adam, Kiera, Brad, Tim and Josh; and a great-grandson, Tyler; a niece Jenine Ikeler, Dummore.
A blessing service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the blessing service at the funeral home.
A celebration of Harold's life will be held immediately after the blessing service on Saturday at the family residence, 220 Sally Drive, Clarks Summit. Casual attire requested.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 340 Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, PA 18507.
