Hannah Jane (Nan) Beynon, 101, Clarks Summit, died at home Thursday morning. She was the widow of the late Garfield Beynon Sr., who died in 1979.

Born on June 13, 1913, in Ystradgynlais, South Wales, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Jenny Evans Reese. Nan was educated in South Wales, and came to this country in 1927, marrying her husband, Gar, in 1933 and then settling in Clarks Green to raise her family.

Nan was a member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church and its UMW; the Abington Women's Club; St. David's Society; the Laurel Garden Club; Abington Senior Center; and the Juanita Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an avid bridge player, and belonged to several bridge clubs over the years.

Surviving are a son, Richard and his wife, Elizabeth, Factoryville; a daughter-in-law, Melba, Scranton; a daughter, Barbara Smith and her husband, Ward, Clarks Summit, with whom she resided; a brother, Malcom (Mike) Reese and his wife, Ellen, Spokane, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Alice Reese, Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Garfield Beynon Jr.; a sister, Norma Reese Toth; and brothers, James, Benjamin, Noel and Thomas (Ronnie) Reese.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA for their wonderful care and support, especially Valerie. Also, thank you to Mary Ann and friend, Colleen, for their hours of visits over the years.

The funeral will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Clarks Green United Methodist Church, Glenburn Road, Clarks Green, with services by the Rev. Brent Stouffer, pastor. Entombment will follow at the Glenwood Mausoleum, Morgan Highway, South Abington Twp.

Visitation for family and friends will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clarks Green United Methodist Church.
