H. Robert Thompson

H. Robert "Bob" Thompson, 87, of Nimble Hill, Mehoopany passed away unexpectantly at home September 25, 2026.

Born August 14, 1939, in Kingston to Harry and Edith Thompson. Bob grew up in Noxen and graduated from the Lake Noxen High School before joining the Air Force.

Bob enjoyed working on cars. His first project was a 36 Ford Pickup that his father challenged him to "fix it up with hydraulic brakes all around." Bob was not only up to the challenge, he got it running, then learned to drive and used this truck to create the first Noxen garbage route.

Bob's outgoing personality opened many doors for him. After leaving the Air Force, he was hired by P&G in Mehoopany, Bartron's Supply and Colours. He met the Love of his life, Margaret D Henning and families were joined. They enjoyed a 49-year honeymoon and Bob was hopelessly devoted to her until Margie's passing in April of this year.

Bob was an active member of the Mehoopany United Methodist Church and the Vaughn Cemetery Board. Bob had many interests and was a founding member of the Pocono Mountain Street Rod Association as well as the Endless Mountain Antique Power Association. He was known for his "tractor room" due to his extensive toy tractor collection. Bob was well rounded though. As well as these, he also collected trains, hay trolleys, torches, and Santa memorabilia. Bob also enjoyed the outdoors, he spent many hours on "the North Pole" hill field, enjoyed watching and feeding the birds (including ducks and quail, as well as songbirds such as hummingbirds), hunting (even though someone else had to gut any deer he managed to shoot) and spent many weekends going to yard sales and auctions with Margie.

Bob enjoyed talking and spending time with family and friends, if not nearby, Bob still made sure to stay in contact by talking regularly on the phone.

In addition to his parents and wife, he's preceded in death by brother Donald, sons-in-law, Jeffery Wilkerson, Cliff Layaou, and daughter Barbara Potuck.

Bob is survived by sister Nancy Swartz, children: Chuck (Jennifer) Thompson of New Mexico, Shelby (David) Cayce of Florida and George (Carol) Henning, Frank Potuck, Stephen (Tina) Henning, Wendy Layaou, of Mehoopany and James (Tim) Henning of Harrisburg. 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside burial with military honors at the Vaughn Cemetery on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10 AM.

Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10 AM there will be a celebration of life ceremony and tractor parade (weather permitting) starting at Mehoopany Fire Hall,.
