Glen Oren Farr, 93, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus, on June 30, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Born on Sept. 20, 1926 in Millville, PA, Glen was the son of Warren E. and Mabel Poust Farr. At age twelve, he started working in the family business, Farr's Hardware, retiring after 50 years.
Glen was active in the Boy Scouts for 30 years, and was the Millville Troop's first Eagle Scout. He received the bronze and silver palms, and was a graduate of Schiff Scout Reservation in Mendham, NJ. Glen served as Cub leader, Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master, and Merit Badge Counselor. He served on the staff of Camp Lavigne for four years. Glen taught many people to swim: scouts, his children, and grandchildren. He was a 1944 graduate of Millville High School, and was a World War II veteran, serving as S.K.3.C. in the U.S. Navy Air Command in the South Pacific.
In 1948, Glen married Phyllis Mary Williammee, and together they were parents to six children. They were married for 67 years until her death in 2016. Glen was gifted with a strong tenor voice, and sang in the U.S. Navy choir (120 men), and sang for 40 years in the choir at the Methodist Church, where he was a member. He was born a workaholic, and always had a project. He worked to build 5 homes for immediate family, and over 30 major projects for extended family... all for the fun of it!
Glen was a lover of the outdoors: swimming, trapping, hunting, fishing, and R.V. camping (with Phyllis as navigator) in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He took one elk 6x6 scoring 355 points while hunting in AZ, but said the best day of his life was the day he married Phyllis. His second best days were many days that tied for the honor: watching his children grow, prosper, and have families of their own. Glen was a member of Gideons International, Bloomsburg Camp, and was involved in prison ministry for 30 years at Columbia Co. Jail, Retreat State Prison, and the Federal Halfway House.
Glen is survived by five children: David W. Farr and Terri, Benton, PA; Joseph A. Farr and Dennette, Millville, PA; Suzanne E. Farr Swartz and Clifton, Muncy, PA; Michael J. Farr, Waynesboro, TN; And Deborah L. Farr Miller and Dan, Clarks Summit, PA. Glen and Phyllis were blessed with 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his parents, his brother, Donald R. Farr, a daughter, Mary Kathryn Farr, a granddaughter, Frances Marie Swartz, and a grandson, Joshua David Swartz.
The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice and Home Health of Lackawanna County for many months of fabulous in-home hospice care, and Allied Hospice of Scranton for easing Glen through the final days of his life in comfort.
To minimize risk of the Covid-19 virus, a private celebration of Glen's life will be held and will be made available online at a later date for family and friends to view at www.FarrFamily.cyou. Glen's son-in-law, Rev. Daniel Miller, will officiate.
Memorial donations in honor of Glen can be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 165, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
