Gertrude E. Race

Gertrude E. Race, 94, of Scott Twp. died Thursday afternoon at Abington Manor in South Abington Twp. She was the wife of the late James R. Race, who died in 1958.

Born in Scott Twp., daughter of the late Merenas and Jessie White Miller, she was a 1938 graduate of Scott Twp. High School. Gertrude was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, and was the first member of their Loyal Links Class.

Surviving are a son, Donald Race and his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Barbara Jane Race, all of Waverly; four grandchildren, Heather Harris, Norristown; Derek Race, Talkeetna, Ak.; Cady Cresswell, Dalton; and Trudy Sutton, Dalton; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Race; a granddaughter, Lisa Race; a brother, Donald Miller; and a sister, Frances Oakes.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at noon at Miller Cemetery in Scott Twp., with services by the Rev. Peter Pearson, pastor of St. James - St. George Episcopal Church.

There will be no calling hours.
