George "Butch" Whalen, Jr.

George "Butch" Whalen Jr., 64, of Dalton passed away on the afternoon on Friday 10 March 2017 at Regional Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his wife Donna Vitcavage Whalen, whom he was married to for 30 years.

Born in Scranton, PA on 11 June 1952, he was the son of the late George B. and Mary McDonald Whalen Sr and was a graduate of Abington Heights High School. Prior to his retirement, he was a logistics coordinator and driver for various over the road transportation companies.

Butch was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed fishing, talking about/watching baseball, working on cars, and spending time with his family who he loved very much. Butch believed in working hard and being honest, and he exemplified the virtues of honor and integrity on a daily basis. He believed that your hand shake and your word meant everything, and reminded his children of that as often as he could. All who had the pleasure of knowing George knew that he had a great sense of humor, enjoyed the outdoors, and loved getting his hands dirty. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Also surviving Butch are his brother Shawn and his wife Reiko, Leonardtown, MD; sister Lisa Saumell, Ruidoso, NM; daughter Rebecca Perez and her husband Frank, King George, VA; sons George "Thaz" and Thomas, Dunmore; David Martinez and wife Tamra, Colorado Springs, CO; nephews Patrick and Liam Whalen; grandchildren Ava Whalen, Yazmina Perez, Seamus and Rosemary Martinez; and his best buddy, his beloved dog Scooter.

George was preceded in death by his sister Georgia McLaine.

A funeral service and interment will be private per the wishes of the family.
