George A. Sloan of Clarks Summit died Friday morning at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit. His wife, Laura A. Sloan, died Jan. 8. The couple was married for 62 years.

Born in Butler, N.J., son of the late Harry and Florence Miller Sloan, he was the plant manager for American Asphalt after being supervisor of operations for Braen Industries, Riverdale, N.J. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Western Europe, where he received the bronze star in the liberation of Luxemburg and Belgium.

A public servant, he served on Riverdale Borough Council. He also enjoyed taking his dog, Charlie, for walks at Lackawanna State Park.

Also surviving are two sons, Todd A. Sloan, Clarks Summit; and Scott L. Sloan, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Dawn Verosic and husband, Ron, Hudson, Fla.; four grandchildren, Eric, Shane and Star Verosic and Lauran Sloan; and three great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Tina Sloan.

A funeral will be Monday at 6 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Anthony Generose. Friends may call from 4 until service time. Interment, St. Anthony's Cemetery, Butler.
