George G. Doty Jr., 75, of Scranton, died Monday morning at the Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton. His wife of 20 years is the former Deborah Coale.
Born in Binghamton, N.Y., son of the late George G. and Verna Bellersheim Doty, he graduated from the Rochester, N.Y., school system and spent many years in sales, primarily for PJ's Home Center in Peckville. Before retirement, he was the night auditor for the Ramada Inn.
He was of the Methodist faith, and was a member of the Abington Lions Club. George was a handy man, and enjoyed woodworking at home. He had a great love for animals, especially his cats, Stella and Louise.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeff Doty and wife, Janessa, North Scranton; and Jon Doty and wife, Natasha, Hawley; three daughters, Robyn Gallagher and her husband, Kevin, North Scranton; Eileen Kramer, Rochester, N.Y.; and Tracy Potter, Rochester, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Marilou Bannister and her husband, Mark, Fleetwood; three stepsons, Robert Cooley, Nicholson; Richard Cooley, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Matthew Cooley and wife, Hilary, Shillington; two brothers, Roger Doty and wife, Helen, Ransom; and Ronald and wife, Carol, Schultzville; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
