George Baronowitz, 84, of Scranton, died Sunday afternoon at the Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Gloria Rivera.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Maxwell and Claria Baronowitz, he was a self-employed entrepreneur before retirement. A man of Jewish faith, he was in a class of great men that the wolrd does not come by much. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was a world traveler, a funny man and was loved by all whom he encountered.

Also surviving are four daughters, Jane Peir and husband, Kevin, Chenango Forks, N.Y.; Linda Cannella and husband, Paul, Mill City; Lillie Baron, Brooklyn; and Lydia Baron; a son, Mason Baron, Florida; four sisters, Molly, Lillian, Dorothy and Terry; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah, John Paul, Rachel, Joshua, Caleb, Daniel, Georgio and Genio; and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded by a son, George Arauco.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. from the Mill City Assembly of God Church, Route 307 and Lower Mill City Road, by the Rev. James Rugg, pastor. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lake Winola.
