Frederick L. Corey of South Abington Twp. died Thursday afternoon at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore. His wife is the former Ellen Ponkey.
Born in Detroit, son of the late Sheridan L. and Sarah McAllister Corey, he was a Navy veteran. Before retirement, he was a store manager for 35 years for J.C. Penney Co. in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany, Glenburn. He was a member of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, and the Bloomsburg Chamber of Commerce.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Fred enjoyed gardening, photography and was an avid golfer.
Also surviving are four daughters, Sue Calder and her husband, Tom, Timonium, Md.; Lynn Surmann and her husband, Pete, Commerce Twp., Mich.; Kim Dudick, Archbald; and Carol Corey and Dave Keck, Bloomsburg; a sister, Nancy Staley Saylak, Texas; and three grandchildren, Alex and Jake Calder, and Kelly Surmann.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bobby Dudick of Archbald.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Epiphany, 1003 Church Hill Road, Glenburn.
