Frederick John Dietrich, 86, of South Abington Twp., died Tuesday morning at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton. His wife of 54 years is the former Betty Williams.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Fred E. and Mae Perwein Dietrich, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Penn State University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in both European and Pacific theaters on the USS Gyatt 712. Before his retirement, he was a route supervisor for Burschel Dairy and co-owner of Beecher Candy Co. Fred was a member of the Waverly Lodge 301 F&AM and Union Lodge 291 F&AM, Keystone Consistory, serving as sovereign prince in the Council Princes of Jerusalem, past potentate of the Irem Temple Shrine in 1992, and past president of the Anthracite Heritage Museum of the Penn State University. He was a member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church.

He is also survived by a longtime caregiver, Charlotte Iori, Elmhurst.

He was also preceded in death by brother, Herbert; and sister-in-law, Phylis Dietrich.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, by the Rev. Brent Stouffer, pastor of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
