Frank Clark Whitney Sr., 81, of New Port Richey, Fla., died Jan. 23. His wife is Florinda Whitney of New Port Richey.
Born June 6, 1929, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Scranton Times newspaperman Neil L. Whitney and his wife, Doris Clark, for whose family Clarks Summit was named. He was the fourth of five children and brother to Janet, Nancy, Neil and Wade. Frank loved reading, fishing and football. He had a sharp mind and a strong work ethic, both of which served him well during his 20-year career with IBM and then later, a highly successful career in real estate. He had strong political beliefs and a well-developed philosophy of life that he was always willing to share. Frank was many things to many people — a beloved son and brother, husband, father and friend. He was fun-loving, a talented storyteller and jokester and a high achiever. A consummate negotiator and deal-maker, he continued to dream big and to reach for the stars right up until the end of his life. He was a larger-than-life personality. Those who knew and loved Frank most never lost confidence in his ability to accomplish amazing things, and he will always live on in their hearts as a superstar.
