Frank Joseph Pollock, 92, of Clarks Summit, passed away Sunday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife was the former Janet Peters, who died in January of 2013.

Born in Slovakia, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Havlicek Pollock, they immigrated to the United States when he was 5 years old. He was a graduate of North Tarrytown High School, Tarrytown NY., and then enlisted in the Army where he was assigned to the second armored infantry division. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and after being held as a prisoner of war in Germany for six months, was given the Prisoner of War Medal. After returning from the war he attended Syracuse University where he met his wife and graduated with a B.S. in business administration and foreign trade. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit.

Frank was a very accomplished golfer including being a member of the Syracuse University Golf Team. He was a club champion at several golf courses, including the Shadowbrook Golf Club, the Scranton Canoe Club, and the Maplehurst Country Club in Jamestown, NY., where he held the course record for several years. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and they were members of the Abington Allemanders Dance Club and the Jamestown Ballroom Dance Club. He was employed by IBM for 35 years as a systems analyst before retiring, and spent his subsequent winters in Lecanto, Florida. But his main passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his four children Dan Pollock and his wife Geordee, S. Abington; Robert Pollock and his wife Natalie, Dalton; Judy Pollock and her partner Julie Johnson, Columbus, OH; and Barbara Staab and her husband Skip, Lecanto, FL.. Also surviving him are his seven grandchildren, Michael Pollock and his wife Angel, Columbus, OH; Jason Pollock, Brooklyn, NY; Jena and Seth Pollock, S. Abington; Kyle and Richard Pollock, Dalton; Tim Staab and his wife Rosie, Tampa, FL; a sister-in-law Emily Pollack, Terrytown, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a beloved grandson Joshua Staab and a brother Anthony Pollack.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411 from 12pm until 2pm at which time a blessing service will be held. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi, 500 Penn Ave. Scranton Pa. 18503 or to the American Red Cross, 545 Jefferson Ave. Scranton Pa. 18510.
