Frank "Poppy" Mears, 73, died after a hard-fought battle with cancer on July 22, 2020 at his home in Clarks Summit. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends, including Renee Mears, his wife of 47 years.
Born in Scranton he was the son of Elizabeth McHale Mears, Clarks Summit and the late Aurthur Mears. Frank served six years in the Army and then went on to start his own contracting company, Mears Construction.
Many of his favorite times were spent at the dirt tracks where he was known as "Young Frankie." His love of racing started with his father. Together, they built late models out of their garage in Clarks Summit. Later, he moved on to driving modifieds. Frank received many awards including Track Champion and Most Popular Driver. Racing is also a passion that he has passed on to his grandsons.
He will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
Also surviving are daughters Nicole Mears and Marcy Ely; son Mark Mears and his wife Tami; grandchildren Shayne Ely, Austin Ely, Mikayla Ely, and Logan Mears; great granddaughter Avery Levi; sister Nancy La Fontaine; brother Aurthur Mears Jr. and his wife Karen.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Frank Mears, Jr.
At Frank's request, funeral services are private and entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
