Frank "Ted" Basalyga, S. Abington Twp. died Friday night at Allied Hospice in Scranton. He was the widower of Florence "Dolly" Basalyga who died on July 13, 2014.
Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Alexander and Stephanie Rydzanycz Basalyga. Prior to his retirement he was a salesman for Hornbeck Chevrolet and earlier Crea Cadillac. He was a member of the St Nicholas Orthodox Greek Catholic Church and a Naval Veteran.
Ted was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who deeply cared for and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are, a daughter Andrea Basalyga-Phillips and her husband, Peter, East Benton; two sons Thomas and his wife, Colleen, Scranton and Raymond and his wife, Sherri, S. Abington Twp.; four sisters Lovely Swingle, Daria Schuster, Dolores Naglak, and Sonia Fueshko; nine grandchildren, Jared and Trent Phillips,Garrett, Zachary, Ali Nicole, Alicia, Justin, and Paige Basalyga, and Brittney Hiller and her husband Ryan; two great grandchildren Liam and Ryleigh Hiller; his beloved dog Sally and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn Basalyga, on Nov. 6 1986; and three sisters Annie Pivovarnik, Mary Kneiss and Olga Dzbinski; four brothers Russ, Joseph, John and Peter Basalyga.
A funeral service, celebrated by Fr. Daniel Vaskalis will be held on Wednesday at 10am from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Tuesday with Panachida Service at 7:30 pm; and from 9 am until the time of the service on Wednesday, at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
