Francis C. "Frank" Wells, 83, of Dalton, died Thursday morning at home. His wife is the former Lois Reimer. The couple had been married for 58 years.
Born in Fleetville, he was the son of the late Samuel and Anna Stugus Wells. He was a graduate of Benton High School. He was a proud Army veteran and served on an Icebreaker in Greenland. After his discharge, he was a milk tester for Penn State and later enjoyed his career as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the International Operating Engineers Union Local 542. He was a Past President of the Chase Cemetery Association.
Francis loved helping people. He treasured the time he spent coaching baseball for his son David for many years. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Shupp and her husband Mark, Dalton, and Dorothy Peier and her husband Peter, Dalton; a son, David Wells and his wife Jeri, Elk Lake; two brothers, Willard Wells, Fleetville and James Wells, Dalton; three sisters, Alice Williams, Fiddle Lake, Isabel Haynes, Schaumberg, IL, Violet Dygert, Clarks Summit; five grandchildren, Jillian Abballe, Bronx, NY, Michael Abballe, Dalton, Jacob and Justin Wells, Elk Lake, Heather Fischer, Concord, NC; two great grandchildren, Emma Slayton and Sophia Fischer; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wells.
A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Svc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit with services by Pastor Fred Bell. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Chase Cemetery, Fleetville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 am on Saturday until the time of service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Francis during his illness.
