Frances Garrison Faraday
September 28, 2017
Frances Faraday of Clarks Summit passed away at home on Thursday evening, after a courageous, four month struggle with cancer. Throughout her final months on earth, she never lost her smile, her fighting spirit nor her strong will to survive. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Arthur Faraday Jr. in 2008.
Born February 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Henrietta Peters Garrison and was a resident of the Newton Ransom area all of her life.
Frances was a very strong, devoted and loving woman who cherished her family and friends, loved singing, appreciated education and was deeply committed to her faith. She was an active member of the Countryside Community Church as well as their choir and was a proud member of the Sweet Adelines for 42 years.
In 1944, Fran graduated from Newton High School and married Art the following year. After the birth of their three children, she returned to school and graduated first in her class from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1960. She retired from Clarks Summit State Hospital in 1987 after 26 years of service and then the fun began! Together, Fran and Art traveled the United States and visited all but one state. A second home was purchased in Florida where they totally enjoyed life for six months of the year in the sunny south. Many wonderful hours were spent with friends at the pool, bowling, going to spring training baseball games and working on crafts. Fran loved life and it was very apparent to all who knew her.
It is difficult to imagine life without her smiling face and the advice that she always offered when anyone needed it, but her generous, caring spirit and love will continue to live in our hearts forever. When the Lord calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald and his wife Peggy, Clarks Summit; Dale and his wife, Susan, Stroudsburg; a daughter, Darla Petty and her husband Dennis, Clarks Summit; six grandchildren, Dena Maciak and her husband, David, Drew Petty and his wife Jennifer, Lori Maloney and her husband Matt, Ryan Faraday and companion Sara Young, and Dale and Justin Gallant; five great grandchildren, Cole and Avery Maciak, Lucy and Matty Boy Maloney and Quinn Mary Faraday, as well as many nieces and nephews and Beverly Liljeros, who was like a daughter.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Laura Louise Abate, Elmer Garrison, Clarence Garrison and Clara Timbes.
The family would like to thank Dr. Christine Stroka for her continued kindness and compassion, as well as the Hospice of the Sacred Heart nurses for their excellent care.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 10 am from the Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Dr., Clarks Summit, PA, with services by Rev. Mark Terwilliger, pastor. All those attending should go directly to the church.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
Donations in Fran's memory may be made to Countryside Community Church or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.
