Florence M. Kellow Hustedt, died July the 12 at the Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock, PA. She was the widow of the late Walter (Bill) Hustedt who died in 1991.
Born March 21, 1921 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas A. and Irene S. Cunningham Kellow.
She was a graduate of Scranton Public Schools, including John Marshall Elementary and Technical High School. She attended Keystone Junior College, the University of Pennsylvania Penn State Campus, and the Lawson School of Development in New York.
Florence served as Public Relations Director of Keystone Junior College, taught at Penn State, and Lackawanna Junior College. She was elected to the Board of Directors of Lackawanna Junior College and became a Trustee Emeritus.
She was one of the founders and Vice President of Kretschmer, Kellow and Dinner Advertising Agency, and then President of the Kellow Advertising Agency. She served for a time as Vice-President of Bethany Colony near Honesdale.
She served on the Scranton Chamber of Commerce Public Relations Committee, the Commercial Association of Scranton, the Wilkes-Barre Commercial Committee, and as Treasurer of the Scranton Business and Professional Women's Club. She was voted the first woman President of the Scranton Advertising Club. She was on the committee to form the Northeast Advertising Club and served as its first President.
She was received several awards from the Advertising Profession including the Silver Medal Award from the American Advertising Federation in Washington, DC and the Crystal Prism Award from the six state American Advertising Federation. Her poetry has been published in several poetry anthologies and she received Certification of Recognition from the Pennsylvania Poetry Societies.
In years past she was a member of Simpson Methodist Church, West Park Methodist Church, Clarks Summit United Methodist church, and the Nicholson United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her nephew, Blair P. Richards, Ponca City, OK, and her niece, Catherine E. Deter, Bernalillo, NM.
Preceding her in death were her sisters, Elizabeth Cunningham Phillips of Clarks Summit, and Dorothy Blair Richards, Factoryville; and her nephew, William A. Richards, Fort Wayne, IN.
A Graveside Service will be held on at the Dunmore Cemetery, with services by Reverend John Shaffer, Nicholson United Methodist Church.
