Faye Matthews

Faye Matthews, 87, of N. Abington Twp., died Thursday morning at Mountain View Care center in Scranton. She was the wife of the Late Clifford M. Matthews who died in 2002.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Marshal and Eunice Deats Smith. She was a graduate of Waverly High School. Faye was employed at various positions prior to her marriage to her husband Clifford. After her marriage she devoted her time to taking care of her family which included twenty four foster children over a period of years.

Later in life she worked as a housekeeper, and babysitter in the Abington's. She was a member of the Waverly Community Church, and held various positions throughout the years, such as Sunday school teacher, head of the CYC, and also various administrative positions. Faye also enjoyed animals, music, baking, and growing flowers in her garden.
Surviving are two sons Nicholas Meo, N. Abington Twp.; and Eugene Meo, Dumont NJ; a daughter Sylvia Estrella, Jacksonville FL; two daughters Donna Kutch, Simpson; and Dorothy Veno, Scranton; a sister Joan Sickler, Nicholson; six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Marshal and Calvin Smith, and a sister Elaine Mack.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 10am from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411, with services by Rev. James Cohen, Pastor of the Waverly Community Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Scott Twp.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5to8pm at the funeral home.
