Eugene Wayne Long of Clarks Green, PA, Scott Township, PA, Long Beach Island-Surf City, NJ, and Spring Hill, FL died unexpectedly on December 4, 2020 at 9:06 pm in Florida from a heart related illness. He was 74 years old.

He was the husband of Bonnie M. Stewart Long.  They celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary on January 31, 2020.

Eugene was born on October 30, 1946 to Joseph M. and Mary Etta Minor Long of Nay Aug Avenue in the Green Ridge section of Scranton, PA. He was a Certified Financial Planner and Registered Principal and Insurance Executive for Cadaret Grant & Co, an investment firm in Syracuse, NY.  He owned and operated Long and Associates, a branch office of Cadaret Grant on Main Avenue in North Scranton.

Those of you who knew him know he was a strong, kind, funny man. He was tough, very tough, but always gave everyone a fair shake. His life was a true rags to riches story with as much heartache as happiness. He was early to bed and early to rise. He was always good for a story or joke. He loved coffee, food, wine, cars, golf, pickle ball, swimming, music, movies, nature, biking, the Marine Corps and military service, animals and especially dogs. He loved his children and was a Boy Scout Leader, Girl Scout Cookie Chairman, Little League Coach and surrogate father to many.

Eugene attended Scranton Technical High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps on February 12, 1964. He fought in Vietnam for two years, one month and five days.  He was wounded in action on November 16, 1966.  He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, two Vietnam Service Medals, two Vietnam Campaign Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Medal. Upon his medical discharge from the Marine Corps, he attended the Pennsylvania Business Institute after which he began his over 40-year Insurance and Investments career.

Surviving are two sons: Eugene J. Long (Aryn Byers) of Bryn Mawr, PA, and Dr. Chad S. Long (Meghan Garvey) of Pottstown, PA; three daughters: Amy L Jenceleski (Jason Jenceleski), of Collegeville, PA, Heidi M. Munzon Long (Silvio Munzon) of Havertown, PA, and Katie L. Whitman (William Whitman) of Dickson City, PA; eight grandchildren: Mary and William Jenceleski, Leonel and Amelia Munzon Long, Addison and Parker Long, Nathan and Andrew Long; and his only sister, Mary Elizabeth Bolton of Melbourne, Florida.

He is also survived by many clients, friends and golf buddies that he loved so much.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Joseph, Robert, David and Donald.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Saint Joseph's Center, Scranton, PA, The Humane Society of Lackawanna County at the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, Clarks Summit, PA, or the Disabled American Veterans.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2020 from 1-5 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, PA  18411. Due to COVID-19, masks will be required for all who attend and only a limited number of people will be permitted inside the funeral home at one time.
