Esther C. Butchar, Clarks Summit, died Friday night at Scranton Health Care Center. She was the widow of John J. Butchar, who died in 1994.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Winifred Kovolenes. Esther was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School in 1947 and was formerly employed by ICS.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend and caregiver to many children. Esther attended Clarks Green Assembly of God Church; she loved her Lord Jesus Christ and spent many hours in prayer and Bible study.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Turock, Dr. Eric Smith and their staffs for the many years of compassionate care; as well as the staff at Scranton Health Care Center and her many friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Williams, San Antonio, Texas; four sons, John J., Carlisle; Ronald, Clarks Summit; Robert and wife, Victoria, Kissimmee, Fla.; and Donald, Ransom Twp., and his companion, Maria Harris; three sisters, Helen Mahoney, Hiawassee, Ga.; Barbara Sampson and husband, Carl, South Abington Twp.; and Ann Jean Coon Ladera Ranch, Calif.; three grandsons, Jonathon, Jeffrey and Matthew Butchar; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and infant, John.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Clarks Green Assembly of God Church, 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missions Fund at the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church or the Activities Fund at the Scranton Health Care Center, 2933 McCarthy St., Scranton, PA 18505.
