Elwood N. Demming of Clarks Summit died Thursday morning in Moses Taylor Hospital. His wife is the former Joyce Walters. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Sept. 1.
Born in Waverly, son of the late Elwood and Helen Deats Demming, he was a resident of Scott Twp. for most of his life. Before retirement, he was a meter reader and road crew worker for Keystone Water, now Pennsylvania-American Water Co., for 40 years. He retired in 1994.
He attended the Peckville Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church as well as a member of the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of the Barber Shop Quartet in Tunkhannock.
He was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren as a hard worker, devoted Christian, faithful husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid Lakeland Chiefs fan who loved hunting and fishing, woodworking, crossword puzzles and watching baseball.
Also surviving are four sons, the Rev. Norman, Wilkes-Barre; Gordon, Archbald; Randy, Dickson City; and Douglas, Clarks Summit; a daughter, Darlene Skelton, Justus; a brother, Arlin, Montdale; three sisters, Lois Miller, Dalton; and Sharon Web and Linda Mangot, both of Montdale; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Herbert; and a granddaughter, Shiloh Demming.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. from the Peckville Assembly of God Church with services by the Rev. Terry Drost, pastor. Interment, Stone Cemetery, Scott Twp.
