Elmer E. Compton

Elmer E. Compton, 92, a resident of Fleetville, died peacefully Monday evening at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of Viola Fueglein Compton. The couple has been married for over 68 years.

Born in Wimmers, Pa., Elmer was the son of the late Raymond and Ida Buddenhagen Compton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Elmer was employed as a union mason for over 50 years. He was active in the Abington Memorial VFW Post 7069 and Waverly Masonic Lodge F&AM 301. He was a member of the Irem Temple Shrine, the Keystone Consistory as a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason, and the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church.

Elmer thrived on outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He found pleasure in gardening, working on his tractors, relaxing in Florida and picking berries when in season.

Also surviving are a son, Brian Compton, Dunmore; a daughter, Suzanne Wirak and her husband, Dana, Woodbridge, Conn.; three grandchildren, Nick, Gregory and Sophia Wirak; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two half-brothers, Weldon and Clifford Maddox.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, with services by Rev. Arthur Davis. Interment will follow with military honors at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with Masonic service at 7, at the funeral home.
