Ella Elizabeth Scheuer, 27, formerly of Clarks Summit, died Sunday at her home in Knoxville, Tenn.

Daughter of Diane and Jack Scheuer, Clarks Summit, she was a 2002 graduate of Abington Heights High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from the Syracuse University School of Architecture in 2007 and was awarded the Super Jury Outstanding Thesis Award upon graduation. After college, Ella received a fellowship from Design Corp. and worked on a cultural heritage project in Hayesville, N.C. While in Hayesville, she was a board member of Clay County Community Revitalization Association, which nominated her for the Outstanding Volunteer Award, presented to her by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. She was also a board member of the Clay County Historical and Arts Council. Most recently, Ella was enrolled in a master's degree program in architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was also a teacher's assistant, working with undergraduate students in architectural drawing. She had a passion for architecture and her artistic talents were ever-present in her work. Her compassion for people and her sensitivity to the cultural elements of the community were the major elements that motivated her and shaped her design form. Ella's natural beauty and charm were gifts that were felt by all who knew and loved her.

Also surviving are a sister, Kristian, Philadelphia; a brother, Bradley, Clarks Summit; grandmothers, Elizabeth Scheuer, Clarks Summit; and Helen Carnahan, Martinsburg; an aunt, Suzanne Miller and partner, Walter vom Saal, Oneonta, N.Y.; and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday beginning at 9:30. Memorial contributions may be made to the local Humane Society or to the CCCRA Heritage Park, in memory of Ella E. Scheuer, P.O. Box 1533, Hayesville, NC 28904. Arrangements are by the Lawrence Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
