Listen to Obituary

Elizabeth C. "Betty" Knopp, 92, Newton Twp., formerly of Moosic, died Wednesday afternoon at Abington Manor.  She was the widow of William W. Knopp who died in 1992.

Born in West Pittston, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Elizabeth Diltz Owens.  She was a member of Moosic United Methodist Church and currently attended Countryside Community Church. Prior to retirement she worked in the garment industry for various dress factories as a floorlady and sample maker.

Betty enjoyed roller skating and bowling as a young woman, and loved watching and feeding the birds, especially her favorite, cardinals.  For years she was a daily visitor at the Moosic Diner where her many friends would all greet her with "Hi, Betty" and shared a "good cup of coffee".    She selflessly took care of her husband, a stroke victim, before seeking her own treatment for cancer which she survived five times.

Betty loved her family, especially her granddaughters and their children, and her many friends; always greeting everyone with a smile.  Her kindness and love were contagious; she was everyone's "Nana".

Surviving is her daughter, Carol Rodgers, Newton Twp., with whom she resided; two granddaughters, Sheri Brown and her husband, James Jr., Ransom Twp.; and Jennifer Sutton and her fiance, Robert Wells,  Ransom Twp.; six great grandchildren, Madelyn and James Brown III , Abby, Andrew and Amelia Sutton, Avery Wells; and soon a seventh, a great granddaughter in July.

She was preceded in death by a son in law, Richard Rodgers and long time companion, Raymond Armitage.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at   1  pm from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Svc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA.  Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
