Elizabeth "Betty" Brooks

Elizabeth "Betty" Baird Brooks, 82, of Glenburn Township, died Saturday morning, October 1 in her home. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Cody H. Brooks.

Born on July 26, 1934 in New Brunswick, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Reba Skillman Baird.

She was a graduate of New Brunswick High School and Dickinson College. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Scranton, the Junior League of Scranton, and the Waverly Women's Club. For many years, she served as treasurer of the Attic Shop at the Waverly Community House and of the Abington Student Aid Fund. She was also a member of the Voluntary Action Center, most recently serving as an APPRISE counselor.

Betty loved spending time at the New Jersey shore in and near the ocean. She enjoyed swimming, skiing, and bridge, and was active and skilled in sewing, quilting, knitting and other needlework. Mittens, scarves and sweaters knit by her hands warm many grateful people.

Also surviving is a daughter Cydney Carolyn Brooks and her husband Andras Laszlo Pap, Arlington, MA; a son D. Cody Brooks and his wife Andrea Ellen Lourie, Bexley OH; grandchildren Spencer Cody Brooks and Zachary Harrison Brooks; a sister Doris B. Stretch and her husband Boyden of Frenchtown, NJ; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 o'clock AM on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 816 Olive St., Scranton, PA 18510 with services by Rev. Scott Loomer, Pastor. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Friends and family may call at the church an hour before the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
