Elaine M. Tacij , North Abington Twp., died April 6, 2018 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. She was the widow of Theodore N. Tacij who died in 2016.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Bartley A. Zucosky and the late Mary Bartkowski Zucosky, on September 12, 1934. She graduated from the former Technical High School class of 1953 and worked at Sprague & Henwood for two years as a diamond setter. She moved to Massachusetts and acquired the position of Secretary to the Registrar of Boston University School of Law where she worked for three years. Upon returning to Scranton she was hired as Executive secretary to a Million Dollar producer of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States where she remained for 30 years before retiring.
Elaine loved all animaIs, but especially dogs. Terriers were her favorite breed, and she and her husband owned and trained a number of Wire Hair Fox Terriers, Schnauzers, Airedale Terriers. Elaine showed all of the dogs in A. K. C. Obedience events, titling every one of them Including a few different breeds for friends. She also owned / handled one of the Airedales to his Championship. She was particularly proud of this title because she did not have to hire a Professional handler. She also owned and operated a dog obedience training school for many years and helped a number of her students and their dogs to properly train for dog show competition.
She is survived by a brother, Robert T. Zucosky, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, Godson, Gary Wandalowski, many cousins.
Elaine was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Bartley J. Zucosky and a three-year-old nephew, Robbie.
A Mass of Chirstian Burial will be held Friday at 10:30 am from the Church of St. Gregory 301 N. Abington Rd. Clarks Green, to be celebrated by Rev. John Lapera, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10 am until the time of Mass at the Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.
