Edward "Butch" C. McGovern Jr., of Moosic, died Saturday afternoon at home. He was the husband of the former Grace Harrington. The couple would have been married 50 years in August.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Edward and Bertha Shematis McGovern, he was a resident of Moosic for the past 40 years. Before retirement, he was a lineman and troubleman for Pennsylvania Power and Light for 30 years. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving aboard the USS Cotton. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was a great husband, father and grandfather.

Also surviving are two daughters, Judith McGovern, Scranton; and Patricia Furdin, Moosic; three sisters, Peggy Stahl, Dunmore; Judy Kazista, Scranton; and Helen Hilborn and husband, Rob, Moscow; a brother-in-law, Leo McNally, Binghamton, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law, Mary Solomon, Olyphant; Alice Gorman, Binghamton; Carol Sossong, Moosic; and Rosemary McGovern, Clarks Summit; two grandchildren, Kelly and Corey Furdin, both of Moosic; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert McGovern; a sister, Clare Norton and husband, Ken; and a sister-in-law, Helen McNally.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Joseph, 312 Davis St., by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave. Memorials may be made to the Church of St. Joseph, 312 Davis St., 18505.
