Edith Shells Bitchko, 90, affectionately known as "Nana" to her family, of Dalton, died Friday evening at her home. She was the widow of the late Eugene J. Bitchko, who died in 2010.

Born in Glenburn, daughter of the late Harry and Nellie Wilmarth Shells, she was a 1942 graduate of Waverly High School, and in her early years was a seamstress in Clarks Summit. Her greatest joy was being able to babysit for her grandkids. Edith enjoyed bowling, pinochle, bird watching and her flower gardens. She was an avid reader and always took pride in her appearance.

Surviving are a son, Eugene W. and his wife, Julianne; a daughter, Linda Gable and her husband, Leonard; a sister, Harriet Locker; grandchildren, James Kilonsky and his wife, Lena; Jonathan Gable and his wife, Meghan; and Nicole Gable; three great-grandchildren, Dakota Kilonsky and twin girls, Charley and Lucy Gable; a sister-in-law, Betty Shell; and a goddaughter, Patsy Tylutki.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marion Beninato; three brothers, Frank, Ernest and Cecil Shells; and a nephew, Stephen Shell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Church of St. Gregory, 300 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with services by the Rev. John Lapera, pastor. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
