E. Carl Stoeckel of Clarks Summit died Friday afternoon in the VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife is the former Lois Hopes; the couple married in 1956.
Born in Clarks Summit, he was the son of the late Robert and Madeline Batzel Stoeckel. He was a lifelong resident of Clarks Summit and a Navy veteran, stationed in Pensacola, Fla. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, the Clarks Summit Volunteer Fire Company, Masonic Lodge 301 in Waverly and the High Rollers Bowling League. Carl was a 1956 graduate of Clarks Summit High School and went on to earn his pharmaceutical degree from Ohio Northern University. He first worked for Keen's Pharmacy in Clarks Summit, later purchasing the business. Before his retirement in 1992, he was a pharmacist at Thrift Drug in Tunkhannock.
Also surviving are three children, Pamela Stoeckel O'Day and husband, Jim, North Kingston, R.I.; Mark Eugene Stoeckel and partner, Susan Cordina, Providence, R.I.; and Judy Stoeckel Fried and husband, David, East Greenwich, R.I.; two brothers, Robert Stoeckel and wife, Esther, Clarks Summit; and Gene Stoeckel and wife, Yvonne, Clarks Summit; eight grandchildren, Bill, James and wife, Jamie; Jennifer O'Day, Elizabeth, Daniel and Rachel Fried; Nicolas and J.P. Cordina.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. William Carter, pastor.
Friends may call Monday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
